LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. — The Warren County Sheriff’s Office announced that one person has died in a drowning at Lake George on Tuesday. It happened in the area of Lamb Shanty Bay in Hague.
The Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible drowning on Tuesday at around 3:20 p.m. Marine patrol officers arrived at the scene and found a group of distressed people near the shore and a pontoon boat. Officers reported rescuing them from the water but quickly determined one person from the group was missing.
Marine rescue units arrived and eventually found and recovered the missing person from the water before performing lifesaving efforts. The man, later identified as Rupak Padini, 25, a citizen of India, was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies say Padini was a Pennsylvania college student who was visiting the area with friends. The investigation remains open and ongoing, but deputies say it was determined that no watercraft were directly involved.
The Warren County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Lake George Park Commission, North Queensbury Volunteer Fire Company, Hague Volunteer Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services, Bolton Volunteer Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services, and LifeNet of New York.
