The Phoenix Mercury welcomed the back-to-back defending champion Las Vegas Aces to the desert on Sunday, looking to snap a two-game losing streak.
During the matchup against LV, when the Mercury were down 62-41 in the third quarter, Mercury star Kahleah Copper picked up a technical foul.
There has yet to be a video of the action by Copper, but she has now picked up her sixth technical foul of the season
If Copper were to be assessed a technical at any moment in the Aces matchup or in the remaining seven games for Phoenix, she would be facing a suspension from the WNBA.
Copper has averaged 22.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per game this season.
She’s the Mercury’s most lethal scorer and is coming off the best year of her career, having been named to the Team USA roster where she helped secure a gold medal for the United States at the Paris Olympics.
Phoenix will be dealing suspensions from Diana Taurasi and Natasha Cloud, upon further review, so Copper has to stay away from a suspension.
Taurasi and Cloud picked up their seventh technical fouls of the season in the contest against the Aces, which means an automatic suspension, if they are confirmed a penalty after the game.
The Mercury are currently standing as the No. 7 team in the WNBA standings with a 16-16 record. They have few teams that are hovering around their record like the Indiana Fever, so Phoenix must keep their foot on the gas to make the postseason.
