The bond between Anthony Edwards and Kevin Durant has received a lot of attention, as fans of the Minnesota Timberwolves are well aware. Outsiders have seen that KD and Ant appear to have bonded during the course of this past season and then the summer Olympics as well.
It’s evident that they like spending time together, from their heated trash talk during the playoffs to their teammate status on Team USA and their developing intimate handshakes. Many have conjectured as a result of this: might Anthony Edwards be trying to get KD to sign with the Timberwolves?
Until Durant moves to Minnesota sometime soon, it will be difficult for us to ever have a real, solid answer to this question. Carmelo Anthony, a ten-time All-Star, recently voiced his opinions and weighed in on the matter on the 7 PM in Brooklyn podcast.
Commenting on the KD to Minnesota discussion, Carmelo Anthony
“I detest speculative thinking. Do I believe it could occur at all? Perhaps,” Anthony remarked. “In the last few years, KD has seen a chance to go aid someone like Ant. That might be the case, but I don’t think their casual banter and coolness translates into them discussing forming a team.
“Time is a luxury for athletes. They have no desire to care about any shit. Simply put, athletes adjust to their surroundings and the people they spend time with—people who understand them and who speak the same language as them. You see athletes with athletes for this reason. since they speak the same language.”
This is probably the most accurate appraisal of reality that anyone has provided. Though it’s more likely that Durant has just loved hanging out with his pal, who is a lot like him, than that he has some sort of yearning to play in Minnesota.
It makes perfect sense that their shared passion of basketball has allowed the two to become close. Because, as Carmelo argues, those people are speaking the same language to each other, humans have a tendency to draw toward those who lead similar lives and experience comparable things. If there’s more to this connection than meets the eye, only time will tell.
