The Marlins will part ways with two executives hired by past regimes.
Marlins assistant general managers Dan Grenlee and Oz Ocampo were both told their contracts will not be renewed when they expire after this season.
Greenlee — who was in his seventh season with the Marlins — had a significant role in player acquisition once he was promoted to assistant general manager in October 2020. He also oversaw the baseball analytics department in recent years.
Multiple sources with knowledge of the Marlins internal structure credit Greenlee with many of the Marlins key player acquisitions prior to Peter Bendix’s hiring last November — including having a primary role in acquiring pitcher Jesus Luzardo at the 2021 MLB trade deadline in exchange for impeding free agent Starling Marte.
Greenlee confirmed to the Herald his contract was not being renewed at the end of the season. He was informed of his status by Bendix, the Marlins president of baseball operations, on Sunday.
Ocampo was hired by former Marlins General Manager Kim Ng, and sources say he was her go-to voice for a short time while both were in the front office.
Bendix informed Ocampo of his status on Monday in Houston, where he is primarily based out.
Ocampo, Greenlee and long time assistant GM Brian Chattin helped with the transition when Ng left the organization last November prior to Bendix being hired.
Chattin is expected to remain with the club, sources said.
While it is unknown what future structure the organization will have under Bendix, it is believed assistant general manager Gabe Kapler will remain in the front office despite some speculation he could be a potential successor to Skip Schumaker, who has no contract for 2025 after owner Bruce Sherman granted Schumaker’s offseason to request to eliminate the final year of his contract, which had been a team option.
