Simone Biles continues to dominate gymnastics at the 2024 Olympic Games in France but the big question is will she be at Los Angeles 2028 as the star continues to hint at retirement at the age of 27.
The American is the most decorated gymnast of all-time and seems on set to clean-sweep all the events she competes in after taking gold in the team’s final, all-around and vault to bring her Olympics record up to seven golds, one silver and two bronzes.
She appeared to hint that this would be her final tournament after being hotly pursued by Rebeca Andrade and Suni Lee, but now she seems to have u-turned on the thoughts and hasn’t ruled out competing in Los Angeles in 2028 when she will be 31.
“Never say never,’ Biles told media on August 3. “The next Olympics is at home [USA], so you just never know.
“But I am getting really old.”
Biles’ incredible Olympic Games form
Whatever Biles’ decision, she will leave the sport with her head held high after rebounding from her shock exit at Tokyo 2020 when she suffered mental health issues and lost her sense of air awareness.
She then took two years out to work on herself and rediscover her form before announcing her desire to compete in 2024 and that’s exactly what the 27-year-old has done as she looks better than ever.
“Simone is from another world but we always try to get better and evolve in the best way possible,” Brazil’s Andrade, regarded as her closest peer, said of Biles. “To be able to watch her incredible gymnastics, it encourages everyone.”
Biles’ career medal haul now reads 32 golds, five silvers and five bronzes earned from the Pacific Rim Championships, World Championships and the Olympic Games since she made her debut in 2013.
