While Jordan Spieth claims he would “get in a lot of trouble” for addressing specific aspects, such how LIV Golf players would get back on the PGA Tour, he is in the heart of PGA Tour negotiations with the Saudi PIF.
Spieth notes that talks are still “very active” and that both sides appear committed to trying to close a deal. However, he cautions that it may take some time because a good deal is more essential than a speedy one.
After initially claiming that PIF investment was not the PGA Tour’s top concern following their significant $3 billion contract with Strategic Sports Group, Spieth has emerged as a more significant player in the negotiations in recent months.
However, conversations have continued, with PIF CEO Yasir Al-Rumayyan and his team meeting with players like Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy who are on the committee.
Spieth was questioned on the difficult problem of LIV Golf players being invited back to the PGA Tour, which may be one of the most difficult problems to resolve in these negotiations, as he attempted to provide another encouraging update.
Spieth acknowledged that negotiations were still ongoing, but said, “That’s an extremely loaded question that I could get in a lot of trouble answering.”
“I’ll just add that although they require some time, such kinds of things are highly active. I’m just able to do that much for you.”
