Crystal Palace have now taken the lead in a bid to replace Michael Olise this summer as the club begins to hunt for a replacement.
It’s been a busy opening month of the transfer window for Crystal Palace, yet it is likely to get a whole lot busier.
After selling Michael Olise, Dougie Freedman has turned his attention to sourcing a replacement, with multiple options being considered already.
All of the possible replacements are exciting, but now there are reports that the Eagles are leading the race for one option as Spurs take a back seat.
Here are all the latest reports emerging from Portugal as Palace looks to sign an exciting winger who has been likened to Lionel Messi.
Crystal Palace now take the lead in race to sign Marcus Edwards
Marcus Edwards has been linked with a move to Selhurst Park on numerous occasions, but he always had his heart set on a return to Tottenham.
Now, a report from the Portuguese outlet Record has claimed that Palace are the club showing interest in Edwards as opposed to Spurs.
Spurs retain a 35% sell-on clause for Edwards, which means for a deal which is expected to cost around €20m or £16.8m, they’d get around £5.8m.
The report continues to add that Spurs have no interest right now in trying to bring him back to the Premier League and therefore as the summer reaches its midway point and the new season looms, Selhurst Park could be becoming a more attractive destination.
But surely Palace don’t want to sign a player who doesn’t actually want to join? Well, either way, there have now been further updates about the possible move.
Sporting Lisbon already replacing Edwards amid Palace interest
After the above report, ABola added that Sporting are keen to see the 25-year-old sold this summer and has gone as far as already preparing to replace him.
Interestingly for Sporting the replacement comes in the form of 17-year-old Geovany Quenda who could be promoted to the first team as he’s been training under Ruben Amorim already.
The report adds that Sporting would like €25m (£21m) to €30m (£25m), however, this is more optimistic than anything else with Palace unlikely to go that high.
Edwards is a top talent, but if Palace are looking for an Olise replacement, he can’t be it with several options the Eagles have been linked to being a better fit for Oliver Glasner.
