Here are three questions with Shane van Gisbergen ahead of his doubleheader of racing in the Xfinity and Cup events at the Chicago Street Race:
1. How are you preparing for the doubleheader racing weekend in Chicago?
SVG: “Preparation is key for a challenging weekend like this. I’ve been working closely with my team, studying the track layout, and spending time in the simulator to get familiar with the nuances of the Chicago Street Course. Fitness is also a major focus to ensure I’m in peak condition to handle the physical demands of racing in both the Xfinity and Cup Series.”
2. What are your expectations and goals for your performance in both races?
SVG: “My main goal is to gain as much experience as possible and deliver strong performances in both events. It’s my first time racing in NASCAR on a street course, so I’m aiming to adapt quickly and compete at a high level. Ideally, I’d like to secure top finishes in both races, but it’s also about learning and building for the future.”
3. What challenges do you anticipate with the Chicago Street Race, and how do you plan to overcome them?
SVG: “Street racing always presents unique challenges such as tight corners, limited run-off areas, and varying surface conditions. I anticipate the need for precise car control and quick adaptation to any changes on the track. Communication with my team will be crucial to make the necessary adjustments throughout the race. My experience in street racing in other series should help, but I’ll approach each session with a focus on continuous improvement.”
