The men’s basketball team at Providence College showed that Monday night was worth the wait.
Winger Jaylen Harrell of Massachusetts committed to the Friars. He revealed his decision during a live stream with On3 Recruits.
Harrell was the state Gatorade Player of the Year last season with CATS Academy in suburban Boston. He’s a four-star prospect in the Class of 2025 and adds to a Providence group that also includes consensus top-50 national prospect Jamier Jones.
“It was a difficult choice,” Harrell remarked. Three prestigious universities were vying for my attention. The wire was ultimately what mattered, and that’s what I was searching for.
Harrell chose the Friars over Xavier, Virginia Tech, Rutgers, Kansas, Alabama, and other contenders. After paying the Musketeers an official visit, he decided to postpone his original commitment announcement date of late May. Harrell was a frequent visitor in Providence, having visited the Scarlet Knights on official business and attending two home games in March at Amica Mutual Pavilion versus Villanova and Connecticut.
Harrell remarked, “You’re going to miss it, but it was long.” “There’s nothing like getting recruited by one of the best teams in the nation.”
“The main things I’ve learned are to go on visits and observe how different it is from high school.”
Harrell had previously eliminated states like Wake Forest, Georgetown, Washington, and Massachusetts from his original list of potential suitors. Up until their most recent trip to a Big East foe, the Friars appeared to be in a strong position. Not long after arriving back from Cincinnati, Harrell declared on social media that he would require further time.
Harrell wrote, “My college decision has been much harder than anticipated.” I will be deferring my commitment until a later time as a result of this. I want to make sure that the option I make is the best one for my family and myself.
