Bermudian karting champion Scott Barnes showcased his resilience and skill at the Skusa Pro Tour WinterNationals held at Speedsportz Racing Park in New Caney, Texas. Despite initial challenges, Barnes secured a commendable third-place finish in the second round of the Shifter Masters class.
In the first round, Barnes faced difficulties adapting to the new track with limited practice sessions, resulting in a sixth-place finish. Reflecting on the weekend, he acknowledged the team’s persistent efforts to optimize the kart’s performance. An incident during the pre-final on Sunday further tested his resolve when contact with another kart bent his steering shaft, relegating him to start twelfth in the final. Undeterred, Barnes delivered an impressive drive, advancing through the field to clinch a podium spot.
This achievement adds to Barnes’s illustrious karting career. Earlier in the year, he secured his fourth consecutive Skusa Winter Tour championship, winning three out of four finals. Despite a mechanical setback in the final round, his consistent performance throughout the series underscored his dominance in the sport.
Looking ahead, Barnes is set to compete in rounds three and four of the Pro Tour, the SpringNationals, scheduled at the Motorsports Country Club in Cincinnati from May 23 to 25. The final rounds, the SummerNationals, will take place at New Castle Motorsports Park in Indiana from July 25 to 27. With renewed determination, Barnes aims to overcome the challenges faced in Texas and pursue further victories in the upcoming events.
Barnes’s dedication and perseverance continue to exemplify his commitment to excellence in karting, inspiring both fans and fellow competitors as he navigates the demanding Pro Tour circuit.
