Star’s agents open to selling him to Tottenham for £74m less than his release clause, club panicked

Tottenham Hotspur are already lining up potential signings for the summer transfer window, even as their Premier League survival remains uncertain. One of the latest names on their radar is Ian Subiabre of River Plate.

For now, the priority for manager Roberto De Zerbi is to keep Spurs in the top flight. Pundit Jamie O’Hara believes the Italian must settle on a consistent system, get the best out of Xavi Simons, and win over the senior players if he is to turn things around.

At the start of the season, few would have predicted that the reigning UEFA Europa League winners would be flirting with relegation. However, with just seven matches remaining, Spurs sit only one point above the drop zone, with a crucial trip to the Stadium of Light next on the agenda.

Given their struggles, a major squad overhaul in the summer looks increasingly likely—regardless of whether they avoid relegation. Strengthening the attack appears to be a priority, and Subiabre has emerged as a serious target.

Reports indicate that Tottenham have already made an approach for the 19-year-old, sparking concern at River Plate. His representatives are said to be open to a deal worth around €15 million, significantly below his €100 million release clause.

Although the youngster is still developing and has yet to prove himself outside Argentina, he is beginning to attract attention after contributing a goal and two assists in the 2026 Torneo Apertura.

While Subiabre may be viewed as a long-term prospect, De Zerbi is also targeting players who can make an immediate impact. The former Brighton boss is reportedly pushing to sign Moise Kean from ACF Fiorentina to strengthen the frontline.

Defensive reinforcements are also high on the agenda after Spurs conceded 50 goals in 31 league matches. Pascal Struijk of Leeds United is seen as a strong candidate to bolster the backline, while further additions in midfield—including a Brazilian option—are also being considered as part of a wider rebuild.
