Everton return to Premier League action this week after a 21-day break brought on by the international fixtures.
David Moyes and his coaching staff will have taken advantage of the pause to introduce fresh ideas and work more closely with individual players. The Toffees are now stepping up preparations for Saturday’s crucial European-chasing clash against Brentford FC in West London.
Ahead of the encounter, the Premier League has confirmed that Farai Hallam will oversee proceedings.
He will be supported by assistants Simon Bennett and Steve Meredith, with Andy Madley acting as fourth official. Michael Salisbury will handle VAR duties, assisted by Adrian Holmes.
Hallam is still relatively new at the top level and has yet to referee an Everton match. In fact, he has taken charge of just two Premier League fixtures so far—making his debut in January during Burnley FC’s 3-2 win over Crystal Palace FC, before officiating Manchester City FC’s 2-0 victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers FC in February.
Most of his experience has come in the Championship, where he has overseen 18 matches. Across 26 games in total, Hallam has issued 87 yellow cards—an average of more than three per match—but is yet to show a red card. That could point to a more flowing contest on Saturday.
Moyes has previously called on referees to allow more physical challenges, which suits Everton’s robust style of play.
